These 7 attorneys are crushing the content game in the #LawTikTok community
TikTok is not just an app for teenage pop dancers anymore—it is an artfully curated, wildly creative, endless of stream of personalized 60-second info-tainment and teenage pop dancers, depending on how you feed your personal algorithm. The more you use it, the more the app learns what you like, and then it populates more, similarly oriented content to your feed. Naturally, as a lawyer, I gravitate toward “#lawtok” and “#lawtiktok,” the most popular hashtags used by attorneys to identify legal industry-oriented content and its creators.
To save you some time, here are seven of the best lawyer accounts I’ve discovered so far:

The plaintiff’s firm Morgan & Morgan—particularly its principal founder, John Morgan—is crushing the TikTok game with their unapologetically adult-oriented humor. It all started with John’s first video, where he attempts to debunk an alleged rumor that he doesn’t have a driver’s license by “accidentally” presenting his medical marijuana card instead. The account then progresses to John’s profanity-laden rant against fast food restaurants like Arby’s (“How the f*** do they stay in business?”), followed by an epic “apology” video of himself wearing a “meat sweat suit,” while holding a bag of Arby’s and extolling the company’s virtues. Boasting over 40,000 followers, this well-respected law firm is boldly leading the way by allowing its attorneys to exercise creative freedom to entertain audiences while also humanizing the practice of law through humor.

Brian Pakpour is a family law attorney in California who posts a mix of both funny and serious content relating to family law. Imagine an attorney in a suit, hastily imposed onto a green-screened courtroom, on the phone with a client, lip-synching the imminently meme-able Bruno Mars lyrics, “What you doing? Where you at? Oh, you got plans? Don’t say that!” in a video captioned “When your client doesn’t show up for the custody hearing he requested.” On a more serious vibe, Brian routinely offers tips to divorcees about how judges evaluate child custody and spousal support issues, while reminding parents to be civil to their exes as though the judge will read every text and email—because they will! In all his humor and humility, Brian masterfully creates 60-second videos packed with more practical advice than most 60-minute CLEs.

Angela is a Harvard Law graduate who offers generally applicable legal advice on topics ranging from employment law to consumer rights to updates on a U.S. class action lawsuit against… TikTok! She “stitches” a warning (stitching is when you include a short clip of someone else’s TikTok in your video) about the legal consequences of sharing someone else’s nude photos via text. In another video, she explains “civil asset forfeiture,” a controversial practice allowing the police to confiscate personal property for suspicion of a crime. Angela is also clearly a fashion-forward lawyer, always appearing in sharp outfits with eye-catching jewelry to enhance her glowing smile. With over half a million followers, Angela comes across as the type of lawyer you actually want to be friends with.

Legal Dad (real name unknown) uses his dry humor and no-nonsense legal analysis to debunk common misconceptions about the law, particularly as it relates to current events. Want a hot take on filibuster reform? Need help understanding a lawsuit in the news? Looking for an explanation on a widely publicized court ruling? Legal Dad will break down each topic into easy digestible soundbites, with receipts to match, while posting brutal takedowns of trolls in the comment section (see his multi-part series about logical fallacies). Though Legal Dad’s sarcastic, deadpan delivery may be an acquired taste, he is a trusted voice on law and politics for his nearly 40,000 TikTok followers.

His content is not necessarily law-related—in fact, he refuses to tell us what kind of law he practices—but his eloquent humor appeals to both high-brow and low-brow viewers in a distinctly Esquire-esque manner. His most popular video right now is him making fun of “suburban wine-moms” for pretentiously naming their kids “Chalet Lee” and “Braxton” instead of something more “badass” like Hambone or Sabretooth (“There are no laws preventing you from naming your kid ‘Fat Tony The Enforcer’.”). With his funny quips and random musings about the world, Andrew is the only co-worker we actually miss from our pre-quarantine office life.

If you are not yet convinced of the brilliance of TikTok, allow me to introduce you to Leroy Brown, Dog Attorney at Law. Yes, this adorable brown boxer (a therapy dog, in real life) with a froggy voice and tie collar parodies your typical daytime TV “1-800-Lawyer” ads, touting his expertise in various non-existent areas of law, such as the “D.R.A. - The Doggo Rights Act” and the “D.G.A.—The Doggo Grandchild Act.” Viewers catch a glimpse of an invoice to his “hooman,” with notable line items for “snuggles” and “farts.” Though the actual human voiceover actor is anonymous, it is reasonable to assume, based on his appropriate use of legalese, that he’s a real-life lawyer whose best use of a therapy dog is to poke fun at the legal industry through the prism of a pup. And, with over 400,000 followers, Leroy Brown is indeed one of the most popular attorneys-at-paw on TikTok.
